The World Register of Marine Species (WoRMS) – editor training course

7 - 11 June 2021, Oostende, Belgium

The overall objective is to familiarize Aphia/WoRMS editors with the functionalities of the online editing platform, and the guidelines on how to enter specific information into the database. This training will make them more at ease with the online platform, and provide them a well-structured environment to look up editing details and tips & tricks on how to do certain online actions.

Editors will gain (better) understanding of WoRMS and the Aphia platform and will be able to add and adjust taxa, attributes, distributions etc through the online editing interface of the WoRMS website. They will gain (better) understanding of the content, functioning and networking of WoRMS, the editors and the Data Management Team.

Target Audience

The target audience is Aphia/WoRMS editors. There is no prior knowledge needed/expected to follow this training course. The trainers (=Aphia/WoRMS Data Management Team) will launch calls to the Aphia/WoRMS editor community, to organize targeted training courses throughout the year.

In addition, it should be possible for each Aphia/WoRMS editor to request access to the training course, to go through it at their own pace (in case of new editors) or to consult some details on a ‘how to…’ step in the editing process (in case of more experienced editors).
