INFORMATION SESSION: United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development

The United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (the Ocean Decade) officially started on 1 January 2021 after an intensive three-year preparation phase. 

 

The Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO (IOC-UNESCO) is coordinating the implementation of the Decade. IOC-UNESCO will work closely with Member States, United Nations partners, philanthropy, industry and the scientific community to achieve the Ocean Decade vision as outlined in the Implementation Plan for the Ocean Decade that was recently presented to the United Nations General Assembly. 

 

IOC-UNESCO has organized an Information Session on the Ocean Decade for the Permanent Delegations of UNESCO Member States on

 

10 March 2021


15.00h to 16.30h CET

 

This virtual session will include a presentation of the rationale and vision of the Ocean Decade, provide information on the implementation and coordination mechanisms of the Decade, and discuss how Member States can engage in the Decade to contribute to the achievement of the ‘ocean we want’ by 2030.
