Initially scheduled in June 2020, the 53rd session of the Executive Council was first postponed and then scheduled as an online session with a limited agenda in February 2021 due to the Covid-19 pandemic. By way of IOC Circular Letter 2813, the IOC Chairperson consulted Member States of the Executive Council about the possibility to hold the 53^rd session of the IOC Executive Council in an online modality from 3 to 9 February 2020, with an agenda limited to essential issues requiring guidance or decisions prior to the 31^st IOC Assembly, currently planned for June 2021. The EC-53 online session was preceded by an e-meeting of the Officers and an e-meeting of the Intersessional Financial Advisory Group in February. 38 EC member States were represented and some 400 participants registered to the first ever online session of an IOC governing body. The meetings were partially live streamed from 3 to 5 February. 

The draft narrative summary report of the session is currently being considered by EC Member States for adoption by correspondence.
